Mariehamn, Åland

Åland was part of the Swedish territory lost to Russia along with Finland in 1809. Linguistically and culturally Swedish, Åland was granted a degree of autonomy and self-rule by decree of the League of Nations in 1922. The Åland archipelago is a few hours to the east of Stockholm, and uses the Euro instead of the Swedish Crown. They have their own post office system and stamps.
